Advanced learner loans are available for individuals aged 19 or above to undertake approved qualifications at levels 3 to level 6, at an approved provider in England. Advanced learner loans give individuals access to financial support for tuition costs similar to that available in higher education and are administered by Student Finance England.
The availability of loans at level 3 for 19 to 23 year olds does not replace an individual’s legal entitlement for full funding for a first full level 3 qualification. If you want to apply for a loan or find out what it means for you, see our quick guide on advanced learner loans.
Advanced learner loans are paid directly to the college or training organisation on behalf of an individual.
They are not means tested or subject to credit checks and any individual who meets the criteria will be able to apply for a loan regardless of their current employment status.
Our traineeship programs are funded for young people currently not in education or work and who are: Eligible to work in England, have little or no work experience but are motivated to work, Aged 16 to 24 and qualified up to a level 3
Our apprenticeship programs are funded for anyone 16+ living and working in England. They can be delivered to new apprentices or for existing staff looking to upskill.
If you employ fewer than 50 employees, the government will pay 100% of the apprenticeship training costs up to the funding band maximum for apprentices aged:16 to 18 ,19 to 24 with an education, health and care plan provided by their local authority or has been in the care of their local authority, As an employer that doesn’t pay the apprenticeship levy, you pay just 5% towards the cost of training and assessing an apprentice if you have 50 or more employees or hire or upskill an employee over 18 without a EHCP.
Government cash incentives are available when you:
Hire a new employee as an apprentice: Up to £4k when hiring a 16-18 year old. Up to £3k when hiring someone 19+
Offer a work placement for a traineeship: £1k per trainee up to 10 trainees
Maximising the incentives available by hiring through a traineeship that then transistions to an apprenticeship
